FIRST® Core Values
FIRST® Core Values
At MARS 2614, we don’t just build robots—we build people. The FIRST® Core Values are the foundation of everything we do. In MARSLib, these values aren’t just posters on the wall; they are the architectural principles that govern our code, our collaboration, and our impact on the FRC community.
Built on the FIRST® Core Values
Driven by MARSLib Values
0 Why Culture Matters in Code
Section titled “0 Why Culture Matters in Code”Elite robotics software is more than just math and logic. It is a reflection of the team’s ability to Teamwork through complex problems and Discovery the limits of what is possible. MARSLib was designed to be a platform where:
- Innovation is encouraged by making simulation accessible to every student.
- Inclusion is enforced by building world-class accessibility into our documentation.
- Impact is measured by how much we help other teams grow through our open-source contributions.
Our Philosophy
Section titled “Our Philosophy”Discovery & Innovation
Section titled “Discovery & Innovation”We explore new skills and ideas with creative persistence. MARSLib’s zero-allocation and 250Hz odometry are the results of relentless innovation—pushing beyond standard solutions to find what works best in a championship environment.
Teamwork & Inclusion
Section titled “Teamwork & Inclusion”We are stronger when we work together and respect our differences. Our framework is designed for a multi-student workflow, with structured IO layers that allow mechanical and software students to collaborate through high-fidelity physics simulation. In honor of our founding mentor Phil Tucker and the Tucker Teams initiative, we live by the motto: “No robot left behind.”
Impact & Fun
Section titled “Impact & Fun”We use what we learn to improve our world and celebrate our successes! Every BUILD SUCCESSFUL is a moment for Fun. We share our work so that the entire FRC community can benefit from our discovery. As the 2017 FIRST Championship Chairman’s (Impact) Award winners, we ensure our code structure embodies “The MARS Plan”—acting as a catalyst to Engage, Inspire, and Sustain the next generation of innovators.
MARSLib Specific Values
Section titled “MARSLib Specific Values”The Mountaineer Mindset
Section titled “The Mountaineer Mindset”FRC engineering is inherently difficult. We actively encourage students to cultivate grit and determination when learning hard things. Transitioning to zero-allocation loops, advanced odometry, and high-fidelity physics requires immense persistence. The Mountaineer Mindset means pushing through the initial learning curve, pursuing non-stop innovation, and choosing the complete, mathematically robust path even when it is challenging.
“The robots are the vehicle; the students are the cargo.” — Team MARS 2614
